Thank you to everyone who took part in the Inaugural Tour de Bens on 9th September 2017 in tough conditions! We will order the good weather earlier for next years event! Enjoy the photos.
I was getting older and rounder and was looking for an exercise discipline that wouldn’t strain the joints too much. I had heard about the couch to 80k cycle programme, with the aim of participating in the Tour de Conamara. I decided to give it a go and enjoyed it so much that I kept it up. I joined the Twelve Bens Cycling Club when it launched. Really enjoying the camaraderie and company on club spins.
I started cycling in 1995 having stopped playing GAA and soccer due to lots of hamstring problems. Cycling didn’t bother the hamstrings. I had raced in open competition for sixteen years all over the country. Got my coaching papers a few years back so when we started the Twelve Bens CC I decided it was time to pack in the open racing and start to put something back into the sport.
I started cycling in 2016. I love cycling and I enjoy the sense of freedom when cycling. I love the sense of achievement after doing a sportif. Most of all, I love the friends I have made.
I started cycling in April 2017 after being talked into it by my brother who was very involved in the setting up of the club. I enjoy it and it’s good for me to have my “me” time. After two 20k cycles he decided I was ready for the Tour de Conamara. After completing that event I decided I would stick at it. I enjoy taking part in sportives and like to push myself a little bit more each time.
